An interaction with Sejal, an artist and a philosophy graduate
Tell us about philosophy and art
Philosophy is a fixed idea about something and art is a way, a medium through which one express that idea and brings it into existence . Philosophy is study of complex concepts that people hold as beliefs globally and can differ and that's what also shapes society and art is way through which one communicates those ideas in a creative way.
Art is a way, a medium

What kind of artworks do you like to work on
The artworks i like to work on would be my current favourite surrealism, Salvador Dali is my inspiration, but honestly I love making every kind of art be it portraits, self-portrait to be specific and landscapes Ofcourse with the oil medium. But i would choose surrealism any day because for me it's just like diary entry. To make something deeply embedded in my mind on canvas.
What are you currently working on
I am currently working on this Still-life portrait using soft pastel medium thanks to my instructors helping me with this medium. The fact that i have worked both with oil and acrylic medium and also charcoal the soft pastels are now easy to use since now i know the mixing of colours and to work with the powdery formula!
Your cat painting is really good, it had a good response from spectators in the exhibition at Lalit Kala; anyways besides cats, what do you like
Ah thanks, that cat painting is very personal to me and I'm grateful for the response it got! To further answer your question, besides cats, i like reading and learning about new things be it certain philosophical concepts, learning about the world and its cultures, travelling and also good food and tea!
Things you are grateful for
I am grateful for god! I keep him above! He has given me strength to do anything that i have never known! I never knew i would be creating paintings in my life and exhibiting it! The while process of creation was so empowering and educational for me! I am also grateful for my instructors, my friends who supported me throughout! And also my cat haha.
How do you see the current art scenario in India and elsewhere, your perspectives
In India i see artists everywhere! we are seeing a massive surge in contemporary digital spaces and high-end commercial art markets, but the true challenge—and opportunity—lies in bridging that modernity with our rich, regional heritage preservation. Elsewhere, particularly in Europe, the focus has heavily shifted toward sustainability, decentralized cultural spaces, and making museums more interactive and community-driven.
Ok, thanks Sejal for your responses, we will see you soon again, cool, ok.
